This is a simple method to steam live Crawfish in an Instant Pot, you can fill Instant Pot to the top with crawfish, as long as you can close the lid. If you steam the crawfish, they are unseasoned – I use this method because I prefer to coat crawfish in an amazing Spiced Cajun-Butter sauce called Whole ShaBang Sauce (recipe here) be sure to dip the tails in the extra sauce! I only eat the tails & steaming is perfect for me, but if you prefer the crawfish to be juicier so you can enjoy the crawfish heads, boiling is a better method.

How to Steam Crawfish in an Instant Pot

  • Prep time: 1 minute
  • Cook time: 2 minutes

Ingredients

  • Live Crawfish, cleaned very well
  • Water
  • Boil Seasoning, (for boil method)

Method

  • 1)

    STEAM METHOD: Add 1½ Cups of Water into the Instant Pot, add Crawfish, you can fill it to the top of the pot, as long as you can close the lid. Choose High Pressure for 2 Minutes, when the timer is up, switch the knob to venting. Once the pin drops, open the lid and serve crawfish immediately. Enjoy!

    BOIL METHOD: Add crawfish to the instant pot, fill with enough water to cover the crawfish (do not go past the max line). Add your choice of boil seasoning, close the lid and choose High Pressure for 0 Minutes when the timer is up, switch the knob to venting. Once the pin drops, open the lid and serve crawfish immediately. Enjoy!
