Matcha is one of my favorite flavors. In the summer I make ice blended matcha tea in my Vitamix. In the winter I break out my “ceremonial whisk” and prepare the meanest and greenest cup of hot frothy matcha tea you can imagine. This year in the middle of my Christmas Baking Frenzy I had an idea…” Why not make some matcha cookies?”

The flavor contrast is unforgettable. Punchy matcha and sweet white chocolate baked together in a soft and chewy cookie container. I must also say that these make wonderful gifts as the green appearance of the cookie is a true attention grabber.

Matcha White Chocolate Chip Cookies Recipe

  • Prep time: 15 minutes
  • Cook time: 9 minutes
  • Serves: 12-14 Cookies

  • 1¼ Cups All Purpose Flour
  • 2 Tablespoons Matcha Powder
  • ½ Cup Unsalted Butter, room temperature
  • ½ Teaspoon Baking Soda
  • ¼ Teaspoon Salt
  • ⅓ Cup Granulated Sugar
  • ⅓ Cup Light Brown Sugar
  • 1 Teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • 1 Large Egg
  • 1 Cup White Chocolate Chips

  • 1)

Preheat your oven to 325F and line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper or silpats.

  • 2)

In a large bowl, add 1¼ Cups of All Purpose Flour, ¼ Teaspoon of Salt, ½ Teaspoon of Baking Soda and mix well with a whisk.

  • 3)

In your mixing bowl with the paddle attachment, add ½ Cup of Unsalted Butter, 2 Tablespoons Matcha Powder, ⅓ Cup White Sugar, ⅓ Cup Light Brown Sugar, and 1 Teaspoon Vanilla Extract – beat on medium speed until the mixture looks smooth. (*Optional, if you want your cookies to have a more vibrant green color, add 1 drop of green gel food coloring). Add 1 Egg and mix on the lowest setting until the egg is full incorporated. Make sure to scrape your bowl a few times to ensure an even mixture.

  • 4)

Add the flour mixture to your mixing bowl, mix on low until the flour is incorporated. Add 1 Cup of White Chocolate Chips and stir with a spatula to evenly distribute the chips.

  • 5)

Using a 3 Tablespoon scoop, scoop about 6-7 cookies per baking sheet spacing them 3 inches apart. Bake one baking sheet at a time for 9-12 Minutes. Cookies are done when the bottoms start to slightly brown. Let them cool on the baking sheet for about 10 minutes, then place on a cooling rack to completely cool. Enjoy!

Hi Maybel, maybe they needed a little more cooking time? Do you have an oven thermometer to check if it’s accurate?

I just made these as well right now and they turned out with a cake like texture as well. I followed the recipe to the exact measurements.

It’s possible that the batter is being overmixed, if too much air is incorporated, it puffs up when baking. Are you using a paddle attachment?
