Chuhai (aka shōchū highball or chu-hi) is one of the most popular cocktails in Japan – you’ll find this drink at every bar, izakaya and even canned versions at markets and convenience stores.  It’s very customizable because you only need base 3 ingredients, Shochu (Japanese distilled liquor), fruit juice and sparkling water. You can find different flavors available depending on the region of Japan and you can also find seasonal flavors using fresh ingredients.  Here’s my original cocktail Yuzu and Butterfly Pea, the butterfly pea adds the most beautiful color and I added dry ice at the end for a dramatic effect. *Watch my 30-second Instagram recipe video here

Yuzu and Butterfly Pea Chuhai Cocktail Recipe

    Pour ½ Cup Yuzu Sparkling Water into a serving glass. Add Ice and ¼ Cup Shochu. Mix ⅛ Teaspoon Butterfly Pea Powder with 1½ Tablespoons of Water and pour over the drink. Add a small piece of Dry Ice and serve immediately. Enjoy! *Watch my 30-second Instagram recipe video here

    **Always take precautions when using dry ice, please do your research before using or consuming a drink with dry ice. Do not swallow a piece of dry ice or touch it with bare skin.
